Port Harcourt was traditionally inhabited by people who where said to have originated from the IGBO nation of the eastern Nigeria. The major languages are the Ikwerre and the Ijaw. The land they occupy was known as "Igwe Ocha" before the coming of the British in 1912 when it was renamed after Lewis Viscount Harcourt, who was the Secretary of State for the Colonies.
These people where known to be farmers and fishermen with very rich cultural heritage and believes. One of the inherent ability of this people is swimming like you will most likely guess, and their women are also known for the exceptionally beautiful waist and hip dance.
Port Harcourt is located in the Niger-Delta oil rich region of Nigeria, it lies along the Bonny River and it is characterised with creeks, and rivers, and it presently serve as the capital of Rivers State, Nigeria.
This city has an area of 186 square kilometers of which 16 square kilometer is water and 170 square kilometer is land, and it is Located on Latitude 40 47'N and 70 00'E.
Port Harcourt derived it name as "The Garden City" because of its array of Parks and gardens, and also because of it role as the centre of
the oil industry in Nigeria, it earned itself another name "The Oil City".
Port Harcourt is the second major (very sensitive) economic center of Nigeria because of it role of in exploration, refining and exportation of Nigeria's
